painting in progress

i'm starting a series of paintings.... the inspiration for these paintings was the david hockney portrait exhibit i saw at the MFA in boston before i left. he did countless portraits of people that came into his home. my intention is to do a bunch of them all the same size. and show them somewhere, maybe in the next open figure drawing group show.

do you do the portraits from memory? or do you make your guest model for you?

from photographs actually. preferably ones i've taken. it's really hard to ask people to sit for as long as it takes to do a portrait, and as many times as needed. i'm practicing my portraits from real life though in drawing group..

maybe that's why mona lisa is only half smiling...she's pissed b/c davinci made her pose so many times

probably. or she wouldn't sit still enough, and he had to "make it up" a little. :)

What an honor to be first.
